Animation

"Freak Show" was a two semester-long senior project. During the first semester, each student had to create and present their story to the class. My story "Freak Show" was one of the final 3 stories selected to be made into a short for the senior thesis. I and two fellow students brought this story to life. 

 

I was inspired to create a story set in a steampunk carnival.  I have always been fascinated with carnivals and amusement parks; probably from watching "Dumbo" on a neverending loop, The typical characters you would find in a sideshow each have mechanical assets to lend to the steampunk theme. But in the story, these "Freaks" were not always part of the act, We learn as the story turns that the Ringmaster captures guests from the show and transforms them into acts in his show.

 

 Once the story was finalized, we began with character development, storyboarding, and scenery design. Next came modeling and texturing the characters, objects, and scenery. I worked with two talented actor friends to lend their voices to the characters. The animation put our skills to the test. The post-production and presentation made all of the hard work worth it. Working on this project has given me an appreciation and understanding of the stages of creating an animation.
